To obtain a NYC Welder License, applicants must meet specific qualifications, including being at least 18 years old, proficient in English, and of good moral character. Applicants must pass exams from the American Welding Society (AWS) or the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) for various welding processes and certifications. After obtaining the necessary certifications, applicants must submit documentation for a background investigation through DOB NOW: Licensing. Required documents include the DPL1 form, AWS or NYSDOT certification card, Visual Acuity Test form, physical exam form, identification, proof of residence, and a $330 background investigation fee. Once the background check is passed, applicants will receive instructions to obtain their license card within a year.
